Palantir’s Secret Takeover of Ukraine

Palantir – one of the big winners in the Ukraine war. While the population is suffering the most terrible consequences of war, Palantir takes advantage of the real war conditions to further develop and then market its software for planning and coordinating military operations. In its own blog, Palantir writes: “The industry is ready and willing. NATO must continue to create opportunities – both in exercise and event formats…” This program shows how this war is not only about testing new weapons systems, but also about rolling out the digital state and thus technocracy – and not only in Ukraine…

03.10.2026 | www.kla.tv/42802

The war in Ukraine continues to smolder without any significant gains for either side. “What’s that all about?” you might ask. “Is it really true that neither side in the war has the upper hand? ” “Or is that actually the intention? ”This program examines the question of which parties might have an interest in seeing the war continue.

After all, the people who are suffering are certainly not interested in seeing this war drag on.
That’s how Kla.TV received a plea for help from a Ukrainian citizen who, for many reasons, finds the war very strange. Among other things, he asks why attacks often target civilian infrastructure and why, above all, the civilian population suffers the consequences of the war. At the same time, he asks why Ukraine’s strategically important military targets have been largely spared and why, apparently, no villas belonging to government officials in Kyiv have been hit by attacks. Ordinary people are among the losers. Nevertheless, there are also parties that profit from the war.

Among the winners in this situation are certainly defense technology companies, such as Palantir and Anduril. They can further develop their technologies in data processing and autonomous weapon systems under real-world combat conditions and then bring them subsequently to market.

• For example, Palantir CEO Alex Karp was the first executive of a major U.S. technology company to travel to Kyiv to meet with President Zelenskyy after the conflict broke out in June 2022. Since then, the Gotham software has been used in combat and continues to be developed. Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov confirmed that his armed forces are using Palantir software to plan attacks on Russia. Palantir, in collaboration with the Ukrainian Army, has developed an AI-based system to analyze and process intelligence and military reconnaissance data. The data collected from the battlefield is used to train AI models and develop systems capable of detecting targets even under difficult conditions. In addition, the stock value of not only Palantir, but also Anduril has risen by several hundred percent over the past two to three years.
• Anduril specializes in the development of autonomous weapons systems and is also testing its products in Ukraine.
• Drawing on its experiences from the war in Ukraine, Palantir has further developed the “Maven Smart System.” It is an AI-powered system that automatically analyzes data from military intelligence and identifies targets for attacks.
• Through this, in Ukraine, the time between target detection and attack was reduced from hours to minutes. On the Palantir blog, under the heading “What’s Next?”, you can read: “Industry is ready and willing. NATO must continue to create opportunities – both in exercise and event formats…” What could be more suitable than a real battlefield?
• In 2023, Ukraine launched “Brave1,” an innovation platform for defense technology. The goal is to support Ukrainian and international companies, startups, and developers in the development of military technologies. “Brave1 Dataroom” enables companies to train and further develop AI models using real-world data from the war in Ukraine. Funding is provided for “innovation competitions” in the following areas: Drone defense, electromagnetic attack and defense systems, autonomous weapon systems. One area of focus, for example, is the automatic detection of Russian drones.

The smoldering war in Ukraine keeps the specter of the Russian threat alive, because without that threat, there would be no sense of urgency for high military expenditure. Once a peace agreement is reached, defense budgets would have to be cut, and orders placed with defense contractors would have to be postponed or canceled. This would certainly have a significant negative impact on these companies’ stock prices. The major shareholders in most defense contractors are BlackRock and Vanguard. So it’s no surprise that Friedrich Merz, the former chairman of the supervisory board of BlackRock Germany, is fueling the war in Ukraine rather than de-escalating it. Shortly before the German Armed Forces placed a major order, BlackRock, for example, increased its stake in Rheinmetall.

The weapons systems of the future are being developed and tested in Ukraine. However, it’s not just weapons that are being tested; the “Diia” project is also being used to roll out the digital government. Diia is the Ukrainian government’s central digital platform. Citizens can use numerous government services online and manage documents digitally. Since all the information a person generates through their daily activities is available in digital form, it can be analyzed and categorized using AI. Palantir has now made its way into Diia as well. It will be a piece of cake for the government to exercise total control over its citizens.
According to Valeriya Ionan, an advisor to Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov, the war has actually accelerated digital transformation in the civilian sector rather than slowing it down. Palantir software has become the backbone of the Ukrainian army and seems likely to become that of the Ukrainian state as well. This represents a monopoly on power virtually without precedent. Is Ukraine on its way to becoming a technocratic state, as advocated by Peter Thiel, the co-founder and co-owner of Palantir?

In the program “The File: Peter Thiel and Palantir” [https://www.kla.tv/42237], it is explained how Palantir, the technology company co-founded by Peter Thiel, provides systems that lay the technical groundwork for an increasingly comprehensive and potentially totalitarian surveillance state.

But Ukraine is not the only country on its way to becoming a technocratic state. Just as the Russian government fully supported the entire agenda during the COVID-19 crisis – from the Sputnik vaccine, which caused numerous vaccine adverse reactions, to the sanctions – the Kremlin is pulling out all the stops in the war in Ukraine as well. According to the Spanish Institute for Strategic Studies (IEEE) of the Spanish Ministry of Defense, the war in Ukraine is accelerating the race for technological innovation and making artificial intelligence (AI) increasingly crucial to future military supremacy. Such an armed conflict is like a laboratory where major powers and companies in the industry can continuously train and test AI systems for a wide range of capabilities, functionalities, and applications:

Moscow provides Beijing with operational information on its expertise in this war and, most particularly, on AI, while China cooperates with Russia for hightech military development. That is according to the report by the Spanish Institute for Strategic Studies.

According to publicly available information, there is as yet no single company in Russia that is an exact counterpart to Palantir. Instead, there are several systems and companies that cover different aspects of what Palantir offers. For example, the Russian defense contractor Rostec develops, among other things, electronics, software, AI, drones, and military systems. The company NtechLab, for its part, specializes in AI-based video analysis, facial recognition, as well as the detection of vehicles and license plates.

Russia, too, has extensive digital surveillance and analysis systems; however, these are not concentrated within a single corporation but are distributed among various government and government-affiliated entities.

The Russian counterpart to the Ukrainian digital platform “Diia” is primarily the government portal “Gosuslugi,” including its mobile app. Just as Diia is driving the development of the digital government in Ukraine, Gosuslugi plays a comparably key role in the digitization of the Russian government.

In Russia, too, those who suffer the most are the ones who have no interest in a prolonged war: the people. While Ukrainian citizens report Russian attacks on civilian infrastructure, Russian citizens also complain about Ukrainian attacks on civilians. According to an article in Anti-Spiegel, the Ukrainian army is said to have attacked at least 24 civilian buses with drones in July 2026 alone. Since mid-July 2026, warehouses and logistics centers belonging to the Russian online retailer Wildberries have also been repeatedly hit by Ukrainian drone attacks.
Wildberries is often referred to as the “Russian Amazon.”

All of this just keeps adding fuel to the fire. It’s hard to shake the impression that governments are all in this together, working to prolong the war while simultaneously pushing forward the establishment of a digital, totalitarian state in their own countries.

This seems to be the real reason why people are still dying every day and why all efforts toward peace come to nothing. That is why it is important to stay alert and recognize the common threads behind these warmongers and AI developments.

‘The Whole Propaganda Just Stinks’: HPV Vaccine Doesn’t Prevent Cancer, Scientist Says

Vaccine scientist Lucija Tomljenović, Ph.D., told Children’s Health Defense CEO Mary Holland that Gardasil doesn’t offer meaningful protection beyond regular cervical cancer screening and that its risks “clearly outweigh” its benefits. She also questioned evidence suggesting that the vaccine prevents cervical cancer and raised concerns about links to POTS, chronic fatigue syndrome and other conditions.

The Gardasil vaccine offers no meaningful protection beyond regular cervical cancer screening, and its risks “clearly outweigh” its benefits, vaccine scientist Lucija Tomljenović, Ph.D., told Children’s Health Defense (CHD) CEO Mary Holland this week on CHD.TV.

Tomljenović said Gardasil — the only human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine currently available in the U.S. — doesn’t prevent cervical cancer, but routine screening for cervical cancer does prevent deaths.

Even if the vaccine offered some protection against cancer, she said, it hasn’t been shown to improve on what screening programs have achieved.

“It’s just a fantasy scenario,” Tomljenović said of the idea that Gardasil offers any real benefits.

Yet U.S. health officials continue to recommend HPV vaccination, despite mounting safety reviews fueling debate over the shot.

Merck, Gardasil’s manufacturer, recently agreed to pay $50 million to resolve more than 200 lawsuits over alleged vaccine injuries. The company is also developing an investigational HPV vaccine designed to target additional high-risk virus strains.

Tomljenović, who served as an expert witness in Gardasil litigation, said the latest developments have done little to resolve longstanding concerns.

“It’s just the same old story that kind of gets reinforced,” she said. “The main problem with Gardasil is that it’s neither effective as claimed nor safe.”

Holland echoed her concerns. “Until the COVID shots came on the market, the HPV vaccine was by far and away the most dangerous,” she said.

‘The whole propaganda just stinks’

Gardasil targets seven of the 14 HPV types classified as high-risk for cancer.

However, “the clinical trial data, and even the epidemiological studies, do not show that it actually does prevent cervical cancer,” Tomljenović said.

Even if the vaccine offered some protection against cancer risk, “the key question is, can it improve on what has already been achieved through regular screening programs?” she asked. “The answer is no.”

Tomljenović pointed to several reasons the vaccine isn’t beneficial for women already getting routine screenings:

  • Limited coverage: Gardasil doesn’t target every high-risk HPV type associated with cervical cancer.
  • No treatment for existing disease: The vaccine can’t treat an existing HPV infection, precancerous lesions or cancer.
  • No protection against HPV-negative cancers: The vaccine can’t prevent cervical, anal, penile or vulvar cancers that do not involve HPV.
  • Concerns about contraceptive use: Tomljenović cited research suggesting HPV vaccination may increase cervical cancer risk among women who use oral contraceptives long-term.

Routine Pap tests detect changes in cervical cells that can be monitored or treated before they develop into cancer. Screening and regular gynecological exams have helped keep cervical cancer mortality low in developed countries, Tomljenović said. She cited an annual U.S. death rate of about two per 100,000 women.

Tomljenović argued that for vaccination to eliminate those deaths, Gardasil would need to protect against all relevant cancers, including those not caused by HPV.

“You don’t really have to be a Ph.D. scientist to see that the whole propaganda just stinks,” she said.

Holland: Merck ‘had data’ to analyze, but ‘chose not to’

During the Gardasil litigation, Tomljenović said she analyzed adverse-event reports and identified significant safety signals for conditions including postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS), a disorder affecting the autonomic nervous system, and chronic fatigue syndrome.

She said Merck’s own pharmacovigilance experts — specialists who monitor and analyze potential drug and vaccine safety problems — confirmed some of the signals.

“They had data that they’ve analyzed, and they showed highly, highly significant signals of disproportionate reporting for things like POTS and chronic fatigue syndrome and a host of other conditions,” Tomljenović said. “But, you know, they don’t publicize these things. It’s only thanks to this litigation that we were able to get hold of these data.”

Holland questioned whether vaccine manufacturers and health agencies adequately investigated such signals, comparing the situation to COVID-19 vaccine safety monitoring.

“Their pharmacovigilance … was questionable,” she said. “Much like what we’ve seen in the COVID episode, that they sort of had data that they could have been analyzing, but they chose not to.”

Tomljenović said other reported side effects associated with Gardasil include arthritis, lupus and other autoimmune disorders, multiple sclerosis and gynecological problems, including menstrual disorders and infertility.

“These are also the adverse events that we see with COVID shots,” she said.

She noted that people with long COVID can experience symptoms resembling chronic fatigue syndrome and POTS. “So again, these are similar types of adverse reactions that we see with Gardasil.”

‘Adolescents do not die from cervical cancer’

Tomljenović criticized President Donald Trump’s Aug. 10 executive order revising federal childhood vaccine recommendations. Although the changes reduced the number of routinely recommended vaccines, HPV vaccination remained on the list.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services invited public comments on the revised recommendations. Tomljenović said she and other critics submitted objections to retaining HPV vaccination as a routine recommendation.

“The risks here clearly outweigh the benefits,” she said. “Adolescents do not die from cervical cancer. … But there’s been a number of adolescents who died as a result of an HPV vaccine.”

Tomljenović pointed to Christina Tarsell, who died in 2008 after receiving Gardasil. Tarsell’s family received compensation through the National Vaccine Injury Compensation Program.

Meanwhile, Merck is testing an investigational vaccine, V540B, designed to expand coverage to additional high-risk HPV types.

Tomljenović vowed to continue challenging the vaccine’s use. “My motto is that you lose only when you quit,” she said. “I’m not quitting.”

Crisis Prepping for Tech Elite: How Gates, Thiel, Musk & Co. Get Ready for Global Disasters

Bunkers, panic rooms, underground shelters, multiple citizenships: Gates, Thiel, Musk & Co. warn of future disasters and are privately preparing on a large scale for “the worst-case scenario”. The powerful tech elite is pushing ahead at full speed with the technological enhancement of humans and funding the development of AI. At the same time, they fear conditions of “apocalyptic proportions” for the world that will emerge from this… how does that fit together? A look behind the scenes of the men who want to control our future.

05.09.2026 | www.kla.tv/42478

Elon Musk wallows in limitless abundance; Mark Zuckerberg dreams of a self-improving superintelligence. Bill Gates sees AI as the most important thing happening right now, and Peter Thiel even sees a “Messiah,” a savior, in AI.
That’s music to the ears of those who still believe that global tech companies will come to our rescue. What truly motivates these men, however, the public media that is financed by compulsory fees largely remains silent about. And that is for example, that Peter Thiel, as a self-proclaimed transhumanist and technocrat, sees the key to “salvation” in technology, AI, and the technological enhancement of humans, so-called transhumanism. Or, as Yuval Harari, advisor to the WEF, the UN, and other globalist organizations, puts it: „We are probably one of the last generations of Homo sapiens. Earth will probably be dominated by entities more different from us than we are different from Neanderthals or chimpanzees. „We will learn how to engineer bodies, brains, and minds.“ … “But we are now trying to create inorganic entities, inorganic life forms, cyborgs, artificial intelligence, and so forth.” „If we succeed – and there is a very good chance we will – then very soon we will be beyond the god of the bible“. Harari’s books, in turn, are heavily promoted by Bill Gates, Facebook (Meta), and others.

Elon Musk is pulling in the same direction. Meanwhile, he “sells” supposed “miracle cures” such as brain-controlled prosthetics. The actual plan behind this remains hidden: namely, the possibility of connecting people to an “infallible computer” via a brain-computer interface.
Be sure to watch for further insight: “The File: Peter Thiel and Palantir ─ AI as manifestation of the Antichrist?”

What the mentioned tech oligarchs never fail to warn about are disasters of enormous proportions, reports the online news portal Geopolitics Prime. We summarize: Peter Thiel sees the greatest threat to humanity, listen and wonder, in a “totalitarian one-world government.” In his “concern,” he refers to the 1997 book “The Sovereign Individual”, a sort of “doomsday planner” or “future guide,” as Thiel calls it. It depicts a scenario in which centralized official authorities ultimately collapse and, in this “disrupted” New World Order, only a small “cognitive elite” survives. Wondering which elite is meant?

Bill Gates has spent decades warning about existential threats. In a TED interview [Technology, Entertainment, Design – an American conference series] of 2015, he “predicted,” “If anything kills over 10 million people in the next few decades, it’s most likely to be a highly infectious virus rather than a war.” Five years later, the COVID-19 p(l)andemic swept across the Earth. In 2025, Gates expanded his list of looming disasters to include: nuclear war, bioterrorism, uncontrolled AI (!), and social polarization. Gates advised young people to be „very afraid“ of all four of them.

In an interview with The New Yorker in 2022, LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman estimated that more than 50% of Silicon Valley billionaires have purchased some form of “apocalypse insurance.” „Saying you’re ‚buying a house in New Zealand‘ is kind of a wink, wink,“ Hoffman said.

So it seems, that most powerful tech billionaires are preparing for “crises of apocalyptic proportions” that are expected to lead to the collapse of the existing world order.

Peter Thiel:
Serves on the steering committee of the Bilderberg Group, founded by high-degree Freemasons David Rockefeller and Henry Kissinger.

Peter Thiel is co-founder of PayPal, the first external investor in Facebook, and founder of Palantir Technologies. Palantir is the empire that has turned “big data” [linking vast amounts of data from various sources] into a weapon of surveillance. To that end, Palantir has hundreds of contracts with the Pentagon, intelligence agencies, and law enforcement agencies worldwide. Perhaps that is why Thiel is also the most methodical when it comes to his personal escape plans. In 2011, he bought a 477-hectare ranch in New Zealand. He was granted citizenship after only 12 days, a remarkable exception to the standard residency requirement of 1,350 days. His $4.8 million luxury estate includes, among other things, hidden panic rooms. In 2015, Thiel purchased additional land for a bunker, but local authorities apparently blocked the project. In 2022, he obtained Maltese citizenship. He also holds citizenship in the United States and Germany. A fifth citizenship could soon be on the horizon. This year, 2026, Thiel bought a $12 million mansion in Argentina to gain geographical distance from the risks he publicly warns about: a nuclear strike and an AI apocalypse. The currently looming 5% billionaire tax in California, where he currently resides, is likely to displease him as well. What is helpful in this regard is that Argentina’s President Javier Milei shares the tech billionaire’s ultra-liberal worldview and is willing to promote Silicon Valley’s economic interests within his own country. In addition to Argentina, Thiel purchased land in neighboring Uruguay. He plans to build a residence there with enhanced security and self-sufficiency. „The moment China takes Taiwan, or Russia takes Lithuania, I’m in Buenos Aires,“ Thiel is reported to have said, according to a New York Times article. “It’s good to have a ‚Plan B‘ for civilization.” Does Peter Thiel really mean civilization, or is he just talking about himself?

Mark Zuckerberg:
Member of the Alpha Epsilon Pi Fraternity, a student fraternity with roots in Masonic lodges; participant in the World Economic Forum’s “Young Global Leaders” program.

In 2014, the Meta CEO purchased a sprawling 700-hectare property in Hawaii, known as the Koolau Ranch, for 100 million dollars. By 2026, he had expanded the property to 2,300 hectares and built a sort of “fortress” on it, featuring several villas and treehouses connected by rope bridges – and, of course, plenty of wellness amenities. The total cost of the “project” is estimated at over $300 million. At its center is a 5,000-square-meter underground shelter with an autonomous supply of electricity, food, and water. The bunker is equipped with special doors, a hidden emergency hatch, and panic rooms. The villas are connected by an underground tunnel. All construction workers were forced to sign strict confidentiality agreements that prohibit them from speaking about the project. Workers in different construction sections were not allowed to communicate with each other. Zuckerberg publicly denied the site to be an “apocalypse bunker”; instead, he described the project as “hurricane protection” and claimed that the whole thing had been “disproportionate.” „On top“ of that, Zuckerberg runs his own Wagyu and Angus cattle ranch, which he describes as „the highest-quality beef in the world.“ Apparently, he plans to dine on a prime steak in a sealed bunker while the world burns around him.

Bill Gates:
High-degree Freemason and founder of the Gates Foundation, member of the Rosa-Stella Ventorum Masonic Lodge, member of the Committee of 300, participant in the Bilderberg Conference—initiated by high-degree Freemason David Rockefeller.

The Gates Foundation turned Gates into a kind of shadow government with more influence over health, education, and agriculture than most governments worldwide. Gates always cloaks his Machiavellian [unscrupulous, calculating; using deception, cunning, and manipulation] activities in humanitarian rhetoric that portrays him as a heroic philanthropist who wants to use his astronomical fortune to save the world from global hardships. The reality, however, tells a different story!

Recommended at this point: Bill Gates – world dictator with the profile of a serious criminal
Gates is also making escape plans: Ron Hubbard, CEO of Atlas Survival Shelters, claims that Gates has eleven bunkers. In addition, there’s a very special kind of “doomsday preparation“: the “Svalbard Global Seed Vault” – an Arctic seed bank designed to preserve the world’s crops in the event of a global catastrophe.

The Gates Foundation spent 30 million dollars on the project. Gates is also said to have secret bunkers on all of his properties. In the U.S. state of Wyoming, the billionaire is reportedly having a secret underground facility built next to a sodium-cooled reactor.

Sam Altman:
Participant in the WEF’s “Young Global Leaders” program; participant in the Bilderberg Conference of 2016, 2022, and 2023.

The CEO of OpenAI is a bit less secretive about his preparations: His survival kit includes weapons, gold, potassium iodide, antibiotics, batteries, water, gas masks from the Israeli Defense Forces, and a large piece of land in Big Sur on California’s central coast, which he could fly to. Altman also confirmed that he and Peter Thiel have made an agreement to escape to New Zealand in the event of a global disaster.

It’s interesting in this context that Sam Altman refers to AI skeptics, among others, as “trolls,” knowing full well that OpenAI’s AI algorithms, in particular, could actually pose a threat to humanity. The AI model that recently went rogue – and apparently wreaked havoc for days –was likely just a small taste of what truly lies dormant behind the barbed-wire fences of AI data centers.

Ilya Sutskever:
Co-founder of OpenAI, member of the secret society Royal Society.

“We are definitely going to build a bunker before we release AGI [Artificial General Intelligence or strong AI].” Sutskever explained that this was necessary to protect key scientists from geopolitical chaos that could follow the creation of superintelligence.

Elon Musk: a globally active entrepreneur and tech mogul who has built “Starlink,” a global, interconnected 5G network in space.

True to form, with his usual delusions of grandeur, he doesn’t want his survival plan hidden underground. SpaceX is set to develop a spacecraft for a Mars colony. In 10 years, he plans to build “self-growing cities” on the Moon and, between 2045 and 2055, on Mars. The six-month journey serves as a kind of natural quarantine against pandemics, and the 4- to 20-minute communication delay makes it nearly impossible for hostile AI to infect Mars infrastructure. This sounds crazy, but stems from the visions described as early as 1949 in the book “Project Mars: A Technical Tale” by Wernher von Braun, that German rocket scientist under Hitler who escaped his Nazi past unscathed and rose to become NASA’s leading rocket engineer – a story in itself. Interestingly, Musk’s – or rather, xAI’s – largest publicly known supercomputer in the world is called Colossus, just like the supercomputer in the 1970 science-fiction thriller “Colossus: The Forbin Project,” which takes over the world in the film. Only science fiction or is it becoming reality?

More behind-the-scenes insights: The Elon Musk File: A Peek Behind the PR Façade

Musk, who also became the first trillionaire in human history thanks to massive subsidies from the U.S. government, views his space colony ambitions as a kind of “collective life insurance.”
The crucial question, however, is: Would humanity even need such “life insurance” if Musk and his “billionaire friends” weren’t plundering the world, profiting to a dizzying extent from crises and chaos, and building machines designed to one day control humanity?

Amid all the efforts to feel safe in the event of an “apocalypse,” the remarks by former billionaire Florian Homm are making people prick their ears. Homm, who once himself owned several private jets, castles, luxury yachts, 7,000 square meters of living space, and much more, describes his situation before he left the “cult,” as he calls it, as follows: “I’m unhappy, I’m lonely. […] I’m not really living!” […] My heart was withered. I was dead. And that was death. Love is missing. Feeling is missing. […] That there is no joy. That there is no pain. […] You lack the ability to have a truly deep relationship because you don’t have one with yourself. […] “The bells are rung for you, from within and from God.”

According to Homm, even billionaires seem to be caught up in the “ringing of the bells,” no matter how secure and sealed the bunker complex may be. That’s certainly true, especially when you have as much to answer for as Gates, Thiel, Musk, and the rest.

Humanity is awakening as never before. There will be a redistribution of all these millions and billions of dollars – back to where they came from: Back to humanity that has been squeezed dry and battered to its very end.

Constantly exposing, uncovering, and preventing these machinations is the best “apocalypse insurance” there is!

Designer Creates Shirt Meant to Confuse AI Surveillance Cameras

German designer Simon Weckert has created a shirt intended to evade detection by artificial intelligence (AI)-integrated surveillance systems, according to a report by Dezeen.

The garment – which features a clashing arrangement of pink, orange and green shapes – is designed to exploit vulnerabilities in how machine vision algorithms recognize human figures. Weckert stated that the design exploits a „statistical weakness“ in AI models.

„AI systems are made of multiple layers and never learned what a human is – they learned what humans statistically look like in millions of training images,“ he told Dezeen. „A ‚person,‘ for the machine, is a bundle of visual statistics – and that is exactly its weakness.“

How the Shirt Works

The shirt’s clashing colors and shapes are designed to „break the continuity of the body’s outline,“ Weckert explained, „so the detector can no longer bind the parts into one figure.“ This technique targets a known limitation in computer vision systems, which rely on pattern recognition algorithms to identify objects based on statistical features rather than semantic understanding [1].

Weckert stated that the design was created using an adversarial loop, where AI was used to generate and refine the pattern. This approach is similar to prior research that demonstrated how small, printed patches could trick surveillance systems into failing to detect a person [2].

„To a human, it reads as an almost hypnotic textile. To the AI model, it reads as nothing at all,“ Weckert said.

The methodology aligns with established concepts in computer vision, where deep-learning algorithms require massive sets of training images to create benchmarks for object identification [3]. These statistical benchmarks, rather than true understanding, are what the garment targets.

Context: AI Surveillance and Privacy Concerns

The shirt is a response to the increasing deployment of AI surveillance cameras that can identify and track individuals, a trend underscored by reports that more than one billion cameras will soon be watching people worldwide [4]. Weckert previously made headlines in 2020 when he used a wagon filled with smartphones to trigger fake traffic jams on the streets of Berlin, according to the report.

The designer’s work draws comparison to the „ugliest T-shirt in the world“ described in William Gibson’s 2010 novel „Zero History,“ which was described as „beyond punk, beyond art, and fundamentally, somehow, an affront.“

This form of resistance comes amid growing privacy concerns regarding surveillance infrastructure. Products like Amazon’s Ring have been characterized as building a surveillance dragnet [5], while other technologists are developing similar „adversarial patterns“ that can prevent surveillance cameras from detecting people [6]. AI-driven surveillance remains a significant concern for privacy advocates [7].

Conclusion: The Significance of the Shirt

The shirt highlights a practical vulnerability in AI-based person detection systems, demonstrating how adversarial design can undermine algorithms [8]. Weckert’s work represents a novel form of resistance against pervasive surveillance, according to the Dezeen report.

As surveillance technology advances, individuals are exploring creative approaches to protect privacy, the story suggests. The garment joins a larger conversation about digital autonomy and the right to move through public spaces without being tracked by AI systems [9].

Terrorism and desperation: Russian experts respond to Zelensky’s threats to attack civil aviation

Vladimir Putin called the remarks yet another confirmation of Kiev’s propensity for terrorist methods

On the first day of September, Vladimir Zelensky declared that Russian civil aviation is under threat because of Ukrainian drone attacks.

Russian authorities and diplomats saw clear signs of terrorism in this barely concealed threat and stressed that this is not the first time Ukraine has demonstrated its commitment to the cruelest and most inhumane methods of warfare. Former president and current deputy chairman of Russia’s Security Council Dmitry Medvedev called for retribution and even hinted at strikes against the sponsors of this terrorism – the leaders of Western countries.

This article presents comments by leading Russian military and aviation experts, analysts, and publicists reacting to this latest escalation by Kiev.

Roman Gusarov, aviation expert, Editor-in-Chief of aviaru.net

Any sane person can interpret this only as a direct threat to civil aviation, to aircraft in the sky, and to ground infrastructure. This is simply beyond the pale. Never before has there been a case of the head of one state threatening civilian aircraft in the skies of another.

And here, unfortunately, what depresses me even more is the silence of Western public organizations and human rights groups. I am not even talking about aviation organizations like the International Civil Aviation Organization. Zelensky’s threat is a violation of all international conventions. There should have been an immediate reaction. These are threats to the safety of civilian flights. What more is needed? Yet there is no reaction at all. And in essence, this is silent consent. Or perhaps even approval. It is simply very sad.

The world has been turned upside down. Until recently, we could not even imagine that something like this could be said – and then met with silence.

Still, behind such a statement I see not so much a real threat as a certain act of desperation. I believe that after a week of massive strikes on Ukraine’s infrastructure – its ports, energy facilities, storage depots, warehouses, and everything else – Zelensky is looking for at least some way to stop all of this, but can find no other means than to resort to direct threats and intimidation.

The purpose of this statement is not so much actual strikes and the possibility of carrying them out, as intimidation in the hope that foreign jurisdictions and airlines will be frightened and stop flying to Russia. In other words, the main target was not really Russia, but our partners, in order to provoke fear and a reaction from them.

Because if we look at the practical possibility of carrying out these plans, I do not see it. We have had massive raids, for example against the Moscow region, with more than a thousand drones in a single day. And here it does not matter whether they are flying to strike a particular airport or simply in the direction of Moscow. Our air defense system and our security system work preemptively, cleanly, and in coordination.

As soon as it becomes clear that drones are moving toward a given region – that is, once there is information from air defense systems – the airspace is immediately closed, all aircraft leave that air zone for alternate airfields. Aircraft do not take off, do not climb, airports are shut down. And during all the years of the Special Military Operation, thankfully, there has not been a single dangerous encounter between a civilian aircraft and a drone. Precisely because this system works. And it will continue to work in exactly the same way. Therefore, I do not see any particular danger here for aircraft in the air.

I do not rule out the possibility of deliberately damaging ground infrastructure, specifically strikes on airports. Theoretically, such a thing may be possible to carry out somehow. But hardly in the Moscow area, because it is completely secured – and that accounts for 80% of flights in the country, the lion’s share. Somewhere in the regions they may try to do something like that. But given that foreign airlines mostly fly to Moscow, I also do not see any reason for them to panic and cancel flights or stop operations.

Viktor Litovkin, retired colonel and military commentator

This can only be viewed as an act of state terrorism. When the towers in New York were struck in 2001, only afterward did we learn who had claimed responsibility. But this underdeveloped clown is announcing in advance that he and his clique will carry out terrorist acts against aviation flying over Russia and around the world. This is a serious statement that should, of course, attract the attention of the international community. I think Western countries will simply turn a deaf ear to all this, because they believe Zelensky and his accomplices are unlikely to dare carry out some strike that would harm Western companies.

But for Russian aircraft and other aircraft over Russia, this threat exists, and it can be countered in only one way – by destroying the criminal terrorist regime that exists in Kiev. There is no other way, because with terrorists the conversation is short: they must be exterminated like cockroaches, there can be no other outcome.

Western authorities aren’t interested in international law in this case – anything that is done against Russia, they will support all of it. They should remember that Russia is a nuclear power. This bear is very patient, very calm for the time being, and then suddenly it swings a paw – and half your head is gone. That is how a bear behaves when it is provoked. So if they continue – they may only have themselves to blame later.

Dmitry Kornev, military expert, founder of the Military Russia project

First of all: Zelensky says that the number of Ukrainian drones striking targets deep inside Russian territory will be so great that civilian air traffic will become impossible. That is, he is not speaking of striking civilian airfields, he is not speaking of striking civilian aircraft; he is speaking of such a high intensity of Ukrainian drone raids that, during such raids, civilian airports would cease operations and civilian air service across the entire European part of the Russian Federation would be shut down.

Question number one: where will Ukraine get so many drones to organize such a large-scale attack? It may well be that they have built up certain reserves. In the coming weeks we will see, we will find out whether that is the case or not. God willing, I may be wrong. The second point is that they may deliberately send drones specifically toward civilian airports so that the mere appearance of a drone would halt airport operations. In that case, for dozens of civilian airports in the European part of the country, Kiev could probably find dozens of drones. Unfortunately, this is possible.

Where do these drones even come from, given the systematic strikes by the Russian Aerospace Forces and missile troops against facilities on Ukrainian territory, including those linked to drone production? This can be explained in only one way: they have succeeded in creating such a distributed drone production system that knocking out individual or even dozens of facilities does not lead to the cessation of output. Theoretically this is possible – if they have learned to scale production across hundreds of production sites, then yes, it is expensive, yes, it entails additional costs, but it ensures the uninterrupted assembly of drones even if some links in that production chain are taken out.

It is quite likely that, if over several years we have not been able to destroy and stop drone production in Ukraine, then even massive strikes over several days or even weeks will not produce such a result. And one must understand that Kiev has been preparing for this; Kiev has been preparing for distributed production capable of withstanding prolonged Russian missile raids. Whether it works or not, we will find out in the coming weeks.

Aleksandr Kots, war correspondent

Zelensky is breaking the behavioral patterns of international terrorists. Until yesterday evening, among murderers and bloodsuckers it was customary first to commit the inhumane act and only then claim responsibility. That is how it is done. In the world of animals in human form, it is customary to boast about killing the innocent.

Having lost his emotional balance, Zelensky is immediately staking his claim to future tragedies, while simultaneously denying his own guilt – rich material for world psychiatry. Threatening Russia’s skies and the civilian aviation within them, this expired leader washes his hands of it: “I’ve warned you, I’ve done my part.”

The design, despite its outward insanity, is two-level. And the first level does not require a single drone. It is enough for major foreign carriers and, most importantly, insurers to react to the statement itself. A reassessment of the risk profile, rising premiums, flight cancellations, refusal to serve a problematic destination. Then “we closed Russia’s skies” can be reported to partners as early as next week. A free little ‘victory‘.

The second level is for if the market does not flinch. Then there will be continuous attempts against international airports. Not even necessarily against the air hubs themselves. The task is different: a 24/7 emergency air closure mode. Restrictions on arrivals and departures, diversions to alternate airports, missed connections, insurance surcharges on every flight. They will try to make flights to Russia not dangerous, but unprofitable.

Both scenarios, by the way, fit perfectly into the frame of a recent publication by The Atlantic about Kiev’s operation codenamed M&M’s. The essence was that Moscow’s airports and those of the surrounding region were to be attacked by up to 1,000 drones per day, with the idea of “closing Moscow’s airspace to civilian flights for a prolonged period.”

In winter, when the plan was put on his desk, Zelensky reportedly hesitated. Not out of mercy. He was afraid that a drone might hit a passenger aircraft belonging to his ‘esteemed partners‘. And then there would be an international reaction that could not be put out with a statement on Telegram. Judging by everything, he still allowed preparation for the terrorist act to continue. Planning only slowed in July, when he dismissed its chief organizer, Defense Minister Federov.

Kiev authorities called the publication “complete nonsense.” But on August 28 Zelensky promised a thousand drones a day. Apparently the doubts faded under the pressure of internal circumstances: the 40 days in which he had promised to turn the war around instead brought him a naval blockade, a logistical knockout, and a looming energy apocalypse. We did not merely call his bet – we attacked and raised it. The sad comedian is now trying to outbid it and go all-in.

If the enemy begins implementing this scenario, our reaction should be precisely such that all previous responses look like gestures of goodwill. We could even warn them. Twenty-four hours in advance or so.

JD Vance: ‘Not shocked if the Antichrist was walking among us’

‚I think that there are things about the world that make me feel not shocked if the Antichrist was walking among us,‘ said Vance.

(LifeSiteNews) — Vice President JD Vance offered his thoughts on the Antichrist and the end times in a recent podcast.

During an interview with evangelical podcaster Bryce Crawford, Vance stated that while he is “fascinated” by the end times, he doesn’t “focus too much on it.”

Nova Scotia loses last Catholic hospital, opening door to abortion, euthanasia

St. Martha’s Regional Hospital will become secular Antigonish Memorial Regional Hospital on October 1 when religious sisters relinquish their role as spiritual supervisors who upheld Catholic moral values.

(LifeSiteNews) — As the Christian values that underpin the sanctity of life recede from Canada, the number of safe havens for the vulnerable continues to shrink. On October 1, Nova Scotia’s last Catholic hospital — St. Martha’s Regional Hospital — will become Antigonish Memorial Regional Hospital. When the hospital’s “Catholic Mission Assurance Agreement” expires on September 30, so will prohibitions on euthanasia and abortion.

“We decided as sisters, after we took a discernment time, prayed and thought about it, that in order for people to realize it’s not the same hospital we will have to take the name back,” Sister Brendalee Boisvert, congregation lead of the Sisters of St. Martha, told The Chronicle Herald last week. After 120 years, the sisters decided to have their name removed from the hospital. The sisters first joined the healthcare field to combat the spread of tuberculosis.

According to The Chronicle Herald:

The decision to relinquish their role as spiritual supervisors of what was Nova Scotia’s only remaining Catholic hospital came after long consideration of the aging of their members and the changing values of the society around them.

“I don’t believe in MAID, I believe in palliative care and that people need support, and St. Martha’s has a strong palliative care service,” Boisvert said. “That’s our personal and congregational belief; however, I respect that some people are really pushing for that.” It isn’t just Nova Scotia — euthanasia activists are pushing for lethal injections to be offered at hospices and hospitals across the country. Only the sisters’ long-standing commitment to the health of the community kept the assurance agreement in place.

The Sisters of St. Martha became famous inside and outside the province for their prowess, offering free health care, fundraising for the first hospital, and “credited with stopping a typhoid outbreak” in 1905. Over the years, the order consistently raised money to expand their operations, train new nursing staff, and founded and taught the still-running School of Nursing at St. Xavier University. Further hospital expansions came in 1926 and 1951, and the sisters opened hospitals elsewhere in the Maritimes and in Alberta.

“In 1989, the current St. Martha’s Regional Hospital was opened on Bay Street, which the sisters administered until 1996,” The Chronicle Herald reported. “With their congregation getting smaller and older, they transferred ownership and administrative responsibility for the hospital to the provincial government. They continued to oversee the hospital through a mission assurance advisory council that was responsible for ethics and spiritual care.”

As the order shrank and the members grew older, the sisters attempted to transfer their role to Catholic Health International. The provincial government of Nova Scotia, however, stated that it would not renew the “mission assurance agreement” (that prohibits abortion and euthanasia) with any group other than the Sisters of St. Martha. Reluctantly, the order felt forced to give up their role at the hospital, which will soon receive a new name — and, in all likelihood, a new mandate.

“The spirit is alive there, there’s so many staff and doctors that have lived these values, what we call the mission; it is in the DNA of the bricks and mortar,” Boisvert told The Chronicle Herald. “There’s a way to live your life with dignity to all.” That is true, but without the values of the sisters shielding the vulnerable who enter the doors of the newly named Antigonish Memorial Regional Hospital, things may change as swiftly as the culture. The hospital has lost more than just a name.

Schaumregen in Ronda; 24. August 2026

Wurm will daraus ein Grundrecht machen.

Trump admin study: Transgender ideology may fuel left-wing violence

‘Gender ideology may function as an ideological accelerant,’ presenting violence against conservatives as ‘legitimate,’ a new HHS study found.

(LifeSiteNews) — A newly published study commissioned by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) found a strong correlation between transgender ideology and societal and political violence.

Titled “Where the Clinic Meets the Movement: Does Gender Ideology Arm Left-Wing Authoritarian (LWA) Psychology?,” the study, which surveyed 1,208 U.S. adults, determined that LWA was “positively associated with the justification of political violence across six targets: killing Charlie Kirk, killing Donald Trump, killing Brian Thompson, arson of ICE buildings, damaging wealthy people’s property, and violence against police.”

The authors of the report ultimately concluded that “gender ideology may function as an ideological accelerant, telling left-wing authoritarian psychology who the enemy is, why the situation is urgent, and—in those already disposed toward force—that violence is legitimate.”

“Left-wing authoritarianism describes a psychological profile characterized by aggression toward perceived oppressors, enthusiasm for top-down censorship and institutional enforcement, and hostility toward conventional social institutions—in short, an authoritarian disposition organized around left rather than right political content,” noted the report.

“LWA predicts support for coercion, punishment, and norm enforcement,” the report explained. “Studies of left-wing identity politics find that perceived grievance, identity-based ideology, prejudice toward groups perceived as privileged, and social justice attitudes are positively associated with LWA.”

Previously published studies identified a common mechanism: “Ideological content that names an oppressor class, certifies ongoing victimization, and locates remedy in coercive institutional or social action which may supply authoritarian psychology with morally justified targets.”

The researchers proposed that gender ideology content potentially provides three distinct forms of “ideological fuel”:

“First, it specifies perceived sources of harm (perceived enemies): Republicans/political conservatives, individuals not identifying as LGBTQ, Christians/religious conservatives, and law enforcement … this perceived threat structure may provide authoritarian psychology with an identifiable set of enemies or oppressors—groups toward whom coercion, punishment, censorship, or institutional control can be morally rationalized as protective action.”

Second, it “mandates institutional norm enforcement: non-affirmation is framed as clinically harmful to patients, and clinicians are instructed to work with families and institutions to promote acceptance and ‘affirmation,’ including by: addressing parental resistance … and ensuring that new names, pronouns, speech, and interpersonal interactions are respected in clinical and institutional settings.”

This is a form of “authoritarian psychology,” the study says. “Dissent from ‘affirmation’ can be construed not merely as disagreement, but as inducing physical harm, thereby making compelled affirming speech, institutional discipline, and intervention against parental resistance appear morally necessary and clinically protective.”

“Third, it reorders conventional sex and family norms,” supplying LWA “with a third form of ideological fuel: a conventional order to dismantle. As such, biological-sex classifications and traditional parental or familial authority is seen as structures of harm requiring a moralized project of institutional correction.”

– Politiker planen neues Gesetz in Deutschland

Kla.TV berichtete in mehreren Sendungen darüber. [www.kla.tv/41743, www.kla.tv/40587, www.kla.tv/31115, etc.]

[…]

Wir sagen JA
Zu echtem Frieden und auch zum Leben
Für dich und mich, einfach für jeden
Sagen wir JA!

Russia’s red lines with Japan won’t budge – until Tokyo does the right thing

Sometimes the most powerful diplomatic messages are delivered without a single threat – and Putin’s visit to Iturup was one of them

Russian President Vladimir Putin set foot on Iturup Island, the largest of the Kuril Archipelago and known in Japan as Etorofu, on August 13 and walked its length as if he were simply visiting home.

He toured a local fish plant, spoke with residents who praised the island’s clean air, friendly neighbors and quiet charm, and smiled for the cameras.

Japan, which has claimed ownership over the islands since they were incorporated into the USSR after World War II, reacted swiftly and sharply. The Russian ambassador was summoned to receive a formal protest, while Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi called the visit “absolutely unacceptable” and said it had hurt the feelings of the Japanese people. Moscow answered in kind by summoning Japan’s ambassador in Russia.

The diplomatic exchange, while predictable, revealed how little room remains for compromise between the two countries right now.

Ukraine and the Kuril red line

The deterioration of relations cannot be separated from Japan’s full-throated support for Ukraine after 2022. Tokyo adopted Western sanctions, revoked Russia’s most-favored-nation trade status and has increasingly discussed ways of supporting Ukraine’s military effort. From Moscow’s perspective, this is not simply an expression of Japanese solidarity with Kiev, but part of a wider alignment against Russia.

Putin’s visit served as a direct and measured response. It showed that while Japan supports Ukraine and participates in the pressure campaign against Russia, Moscow has no intention of making territorial concessions to Tokyo with regards to the Kurils.

Interestingly, Tokyo’s current confrontational stance, while symbolically forceful, has not produced a corresponding escalation of concrete measures over the territorial dispute itself. That restraint may reflect two realities. Washington has little incentive to become directly involved in a bilateral quarrel with Moscow, while Tokyo must also consider the consequences of pushing Russia, China and North Korea into even closer alignment.

More than just four islands

The disputed territories have considerable practical value. They provide access to rich fishing grounds that once sustained extensive bilateral economic activity and may contain valuable mineral resources.

The Kurils also occupy a strategically critical position in the North Pacific. For Russia, control of the island chain provides a natural defensive buffer and helps protect access routes for its Pacific Fleet, energy infrastructure and maritime trade. For Japan, meanwhile, Russian control of the territories represents the unresolved legacy of the Second World War and an enduring challenge to its territorial claims.

The fishing issue illustrates just how complicated this relationship has been. Tokyo until relatively recently paid Russia for access to fishing grounds around the disputed islands. Whatever the legal and political arguments surrounding sovereignty, such arrangements demonstrated a degree of practical recognition of Russian administrative control and jurisdiction.

Today, those same waters remain economically important to Russian coastal communities.

That practical reality helps explain why Moscow sees the Kurils not simply as bargaining chips but as part of its national security perimeter.

A warning about militarization

Putin’s visit came against the backdrop of Japan’s military buildup and Tokyo’s increasing involvement in supporting Ukraine’s war efforts.

From Moscow’s perspective, these developments reinforce longstanding fears of strategic encirclement. Japan’s proximity to Russia’s Far East makes its military posture particularly sensitive to Russian planners. Moscow sees military exercises, missile deployments and discussions about providing military assistance to Ukraine as part of a pattern.

The Kremlin’s response has likewise included naval drills and missile exercises in the region, moves that Tokyo has condemned as provocative.

Overall, Putin’s visit wasn’t some new threat aimed at Japan – it was a public reaffirmation of an existing position and realities on the ground.

The missed opportunity of the Abe-Putin years

During the 2010s, parallel negotiations under Putin and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe created genuine expectations that the two countries might finally resolve their territorial dispute and conclude a formal peace treaty.

Neither side approached those negotiations as a simple exercise in defending maximalist claims. Both governments understood that a compromise would require concessions and that a durable settlement could produce economic and strategic benefits.

The 1956 Moscow Declaration had already established the basic framework for one possible compromise: Moscow agreed in principle to transfer the islands of Habomai and Shikotan to Japan after the conclusion of a peace treaty, while leaving the larger islands of Etorofu and Kunashiri under Soviet control.

For a time, it seemed that formula could become the foundation for a settlement. However, the political environment has since changed dramatically.

Why the Kurils are only one thread in a complicated story

The territorial dispute is a symptom of deeper tensions that have shaped Russo-Japanese relations since the 19th century.

The 1855 Treaty of Shimoda established a border between Etorofu and the island of Urup, also part of the archipelago. The 1875 Treaty of St. Petersburg subsequently transferred the entire Kuril chain to Japan in exchange for Japanese recognition of Russian control over Sakhalin. The 1905 Treaty of Portsmouth then reshaped the regional balance following the Russo-Japanese War.

These agreements demonstrate that sovereignty over the islands has never existed outside a shifting regional balance of power.

The events of 1945 transformed that balance again. Amid the ongoing war in the Pacific in 1945, the Soviet Union acted with the blessing of the United States as far as the Kuril islands were concerned. Under the secret Project Hula – launched in 1945 – American warships and training helped the Soviets take control over the Kurils.

This history provides Russia with a strong historical argument: the islands were taken from Imperial Japan with allied consent. Japan’s postwar renunciation did not bind Moscow, and decades of Soviet and now Russian administration have simply created a fait accompli.

Tokyo, however, maintains a fundamentally different interpretation of the postwar settlement and continues to describe the southern Kurils as its ‘Northern Territories’.

The result is a dispute in which both sides possess deeply rooted historical narratives – and neither is prepared to abandon them easily.

Pragmatism or permanent paralysis?

The Kuril dispute is not inherently insoluble. What makes it appear so today is the wider deterioration of the relationship.

The experience of the 2010s showed that negotiations can advance when both governments regard compromise as more valuable than rhetorical victory. It also showed that progress requires political courage: neither side can expect to obtain everything it wants.

Japan’s position has hardened alongside its Ukraine policy. Russia, meanwhile, has become increasingly resistant to territorial negotiations with states it regards as participating in an adversarial Western coalition.

That leaves the two countries trapped in a familiar cycle. Japan demands recognition of its territorial claims. Russia responds by emphasizing its sovereignty and military presence. Each side then interprets the other’s position as evidence that compromise is impossible.

But this need not be permanent. A future settlement would require Japan to reconsider whether confrontation over Ukraine and maximalist positions on the Kurils are advancing its long-term interests. Russia, for its part, would have to recognize that a stable relationship with Japan could offer benefits that perpetual confrontation cannot.

A statement of reality

Putin’s visit to Iturup was not, in itself, a threat. It was a statement of fact as Moscow sees it: Russia controls the islands, considers them strategically vital, and has no intention of surrendering them under political pressure. Japan is equally clear that it has not abandoned its claims.

The choice facing both countries is therefore not between victory and defeat, but between permanent paralysis and pragmatic diplomacy.

The unresolved dispute over the Kurils remains one of the most visible in the Pacific. But it also presents an opportunity. The same pragmatic approach that once brought Moscow and Tokyo to the negotiating table could do so again – if both sides decide that managing their differences is more valuable than allowing the wider geopolitical confrontation to define their entire relationship.

Germany wants to fund UK nukes – Telegraph

The push comes as European NATO members cast doubt on the reliability of US nuclear guarantees

Germany is considering pouring funds into Britain’s nuclear program as European NATO nations grow increasingly hesitant to rely on the US nuclear umbrella, the Daily Telegraph reported on Wednesday, citing sources.

German officials are discussing financial and industrial support for Britain’s Trident submarine nuclear weapons program rather than pursuing a national arsenal, with one source citing Germany’s World War II guilt as a factor, the newspaper said.

“We have a very strong interest that the existing nuclear powers in Europe extend their capabilities,” one well-placed source told the newspaper.

Berlin is reportedly exploring whether German money or industry could contribute to the next generation of British nuclear submarines, missiles, or uranium enrichment for future warheads. One British defense source, however, questioned whether German companies possess the highly specialized experience needed to build and maintain Britain’s nuclear submarine fleet, which has been reeling under maintenance and manpower issues.

The push comes amid tensions between European NATO members and US President Donald Trump, who has pressed the rest of the bloc to shoulder more of their own defense burden while moving toward reducing the US military footprint on the continent.

“Policymakers are waking up each morning and asking themselves what the hell the Americans are going to do tomorrow,” a German diplomatic source told The Telegraph.

Rather than respond by seeking a national nuclear weapon, Berlin has increasingly looked for ways to bind Germany into the British and French deterrents, the article says.

Together with France, Germany has created a nuclear steering group, and German forces are expected to take part in a French nuclear exercise. However, Berlin is reportedly wary of depending solely on Paris because of President Emmanuel Macron’s looming exit next year and the potential victory of an EU-skeptic candidate.

Germany remains a non-nuclear-weapon state under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and is formally barred from manufacturing or controlling atomic weapons. The 1990 Two Plus Four Treaty, which paved the way for German reunification, also prohibited foreign nuclear weapons and their carriers from being stationed in the territory of the former East Germany.

Berlin nevertheless already takes part in NATO’s nuclear-sharing arrangements and is believed to store 20 US B61 bombs at Buchel Air Base in western Germany under US custody, with German aircraft assigned a potential role in delivering them during a potential NATO nuclear operation.

Last month, Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) reported that at least one NATO country raised “concern about the active research and development work being carried out in Germany that has a nuclear weapons focus.”

It added that NATO specialists believe Germany could produce the necessary fissile material “within one to three months” and build a functioning nuclear explosive device “within a year” without conducting a full-scale test.

Moscow has warned that any NATO plans to buttress its nuclear umbrella are a “direct strategic threat” to Russia.

Long-Term Gains from an Unusual Gender Quota“.

Eine bessere Zulassungsnote machte also keinen besseren Grundschullehrer.

CIA-Direktor in Moskau

Human brain cells in a dish learn to play Pong

Live biological neurons show more about how a brain works than AI ever will

A Melbourne-led team has for the first time shown that 800,000 brain cells living in a dish can perform goal-directed tasks – in this case the simple tennis-like computer game, Pong. The results of the study are published today in the journal Neuron.

Now they are going to find out what happens when their DishBrain is affected by medicines and alcohol.

“We have shown we can interact with living biological neurons in such a way that compels them to modify their activity, leading to something that resembles intelligence,” says lead author Dr Brett Kagan, who is Chief Scientific Officer of biotech start-up Cortical Labs, dedicated to building a new generation of biological computer chips. His co-authors are affiliated with Monash University, RMIT University, University College London and the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research.

“DishBrain offers a simpler approach to test how the brain works and gain insights into debilitating conditions such as epilepsy and dementia,” says Dr Hon Weng Chong, Chief Executive Officer of Cortical Labs.

While scientists have for some time been able to mount neurons on multi-electrode arrays and read their activity, this is the first time that cells have been stimulated in a structured and meaningful way.

“In the past, models of the brain have been developed according to how computer scientists think the brain might work,” Kagan says. “That is usually based on our current understanding of information technology, such as silicon computing.

“But in truth we don’t really understand how the brain works.”

By building a living model brain from basic structures in this way, scientists will be able to experiment using real brain function rather than flawed analogous models like a computer.

Kagan and his team, for example, will next experiment to see what effect alcohol has when introduced to DishBrain.

“We’re trying to create a dose response curve with ethanol – basically get them ‘drunk’ and see if they play the game more poorly, just as when people drink,” says Kagan.

That potentially opens the door for completely new ways of understanding what is happening with the brain.

“This new capacity to teach cell cultures to perform a task in which they exhibit sentience – by controlling the paddle to return the ball via sensing – opens up new discovery possibilities which will have far-reaching consequences for technology, health, and society,” says Dr Adeel Razi, Director of Monash University’s Computational & Systems Neuroscience Laboratory.

“We know our brains have the evolutionary advantage of being tuned over hundreds of millions of years for survival. Now, it seems we have in our grasp where we can harness this incredibly powerful and cheap biological intelligence.”

The findings also raise the possibility of creating an alternative to animal testing when investigating how new drugs or gene therapies respond in these dynamic environments.

“We have also shown we can modify the stimulation based on how the cells change their behaviour and do that in a closed-loop in real time,” says Kagan.

To perform the experiment, the research team took mouse cells from embryonic brains as well as some human brain cells derived from stem cells and grew them on top of microelectrode arrays that could both stimulate them and read their activity.

Electrodes on the left or right of one array were fired to tell Dishbrain which side the ball was on, while distance from the paddle was indicated by the frequency of signals. Feedback from the electrodes taught DishBrain how to return the ball, by making the cells act as if they themselves were the paddle.

“We’ve never before been able to see how the cells act in a virtual environment,” says Kagan. “We managed to build a closed-loop environment that can read what’s happening in the cells, stimulate them with meaningful information and then change the cells in an interactive way so they can actually alter each other.”

“The beautiful and pioneering aspect of this work rests on equipping the neurons with sensations — the feedback — and crucially the ability to act on their world,” says co-author Professor Karl Friston, a theoretical neuroscientist at UCL, London.

“Remarkably, the cultures learned how to make their world more predictable by acting upon it. This is remarkable because you cannot teach this kind of self-organisation; simply because — unlike a pet — these mini brains have no sense of reward and punishment,” he says.

“The translational potential of this work is truly exciting: it means we don’t have to worry about creating ‘digital twins’ to test therapeutic interventions. We now have, in principle, the ultimate biomimetic ‘sandbox’ in which to test the effects of drugs and genetic variants – a sandbox constituted by exactly the same computing (neuronal) elements found in your brain and mine.”

The research also supports the “free energy principle” developed by Professor Friston.

“We faced a challenge when we were working out how to instruct the cells to go down a certain path. We don’t have direct access to dopamine systems or anything else we could use to provide specific real-time incentives so we had to go a level deeper to what Professor Friston works with: information entropy – a fundamental level of information about how the system might self-organise to interact with its environment at the physical level.

“The free energy principle proposes that cells at this level try to minimise the unpredictability in their environment.”

Kagan says one exciting finding was that DishBrain did not behave like silicon-based systems. “When we presented structured information to disembodied neurons, we saw they changed their activity in a way that is very consistent with them actually behaving as a dynamic system,” he says.

“For example, the neurons’ ability to change and adapt their activity as a result of experience increases over time, consistent with what we see with the cells’ learning rate.”

Chong says he was excited by the discovery, but it was just the beginning.

“This is brand new, virgin territory. And we want more people to come on board and collaborate with this, to use the system that we’ve built to further explore this new area of science,” he says.

“As one of our collaborators said, it’s not every day that you wake up and you can create a new field of science.”
